Magnetic Island
It's been a while so this we're gonna split this into more than one entry - we'll start with what we did after Airlie Beach.
We travelled on to Magnetic Island, outside Townsville. There was a massive change in humidity in moving from Airlie Beach to Townsville. It was quite oppressive, so for the first day we jst acclimatised - yes that means we did nothing. We camped on Magnetic Island and the nights were no cooler than the days. We spent 4 days there and it was really nice - a quiet island with about 2,000 inhabitants.
We went horse riding in the bush with Bluey's Bush Rides and it was excellent. You go riding in the bush for an hour, then arrive on a beach and trot along there. When you come to a stop you get to take the saddle of your horse and go into the sea with the horse. I loved it, and my horse, Honey, was lovely - but always hungry.
We also went sea-kayaking, which was tough work on the old arms. We didn't sea much sea-life but it we had a nice breakfast on a very secluded beach. On the way back it was easier with the wind at our backs. I'm glad we did it.
We stayed at Geoff's Place (no one there is called Geoff by the way), which is a hostel but also has camping grounds. It was very nice and every afternoon you can feed lorakeets (parrots basically) and there are possoms and rock wallabies (really small wallabies).
