Wellington

You see, in our excitement, we're missing out on a couple of days here. We were in Nelson for 2 days before catching the ferry from Picton to Wellington, but we're that excited to tell you about Wellington we really couldn't be arsed with Nelson.....

Ok, ok, ok. Nelson was nice. We saw some great craft places and the Sounds are lovely. Seriously, that was it!!!

So Wellington. We got there 5 days after The Premiere, yes LOTR: The Return of the King. We stayed at the Wellington YHA, very good place to stay and would have been a top spot for viewing all the premiere activity. From our bedroom we could see the Embassy cinema, complete with a giant model of a Nazgul riding a fellbeast - wehave good pics of this which we will upload soon.

There were other models we noticed as we walked around the city. On Courtenay Place, on the Reading cinemas there was a another Fellbeast and Nazgul. Outside the City Gallery there was a huge Cave Troll. And by the way we were in the City Gallery to see one of Viggo Mortensen's photography exhibition. His photography is weird - very well done but not what I'd call pictures - abstract, that's it, abstract!

We went to the Te Papa Museum, which is just one of the best museums we've been to. Anyway, they have one of the models of Barad-Dur actually used in the film - it's complete with lava flows, etc.

There was a real LOTR buzz about the city - it was really cool, but obviously would have been cooler if we were there for the premiere. Oh and we didn't meet any celebrities - damn.
